Increasing accessibility and supporting universal design for learning with Panopto

Haverford College, a small liberal‑arts institution near Philadelphia, needed an easy way for students to review lectures and for faculty to share recordings — and that need intensified when courses moved online during the pandemic. Their chosen video‑conferencing tool could handle live sessions but offered poor editing, storage, and LMS integration, so recordings were hard to find and accessibility needs weren’t fully met.

Instructional Technology Services integrated Panopto with Moodle, ramped up faculty training, added LTI Pro to route cloud recordings automatically, and equipped 22 classrooms for recording. By promoting short, flipped videos and using Panopto’s editing, captioning, and permissioning features, Haverford greatly increased usage, improved accessibility for diverse learners, and made Panopto the central place to store, edit, and deliver course video.
