How the University of Arizona manages 2TB of lecture capture video weekly

The University of Arizona, a 42,000‑student public research university, had grown from pilot projects into a patchwork of departmental lecture‑capture systems that were expensive, immobile, inconsistent for students, and difficult to support. The Office of the CIO set out to find a scalable, cross‑platform, software‑based solution to standardize capture across hundreds of classrooms and make video easy for faculty and students to use.

UA chose Panopto, integrated it with the LMS, deployed the recorder to 300+ rooms and campus computers, and supported adoption with centralized training, library migration, and strong vendor collaboration (including hybrid cloud/local storage). The campus now produces about 2 TB of video per week, records roughly 30,000 hours a year, and students viewed nearly 270,000 hours of content last year.
