Central Piedmont Community College, a multi-campus institution in Charlotte, NC, adopted Panopto as a pilot in 2009 to standardize video across nearly 300 programs and eight campuses. ITS needed a supportable, cost-effective solution and had to overcome faculty concerns that recorded content would replace instructors or reduce classroom engagement.

By empowering early adopters to become advocates, Central Piedmont expanded Panopto into a campus-wide media repository used for lecture capture, skills-based training, student assignments, and archiving. Moving to a cloud-hosted solution provided scalability, strong security (protecting content during a ransomware incident), and reliable auto-transcription; adoption surged during the pandemic, the transition to online learning was smooth, and the college now uses Panopto’s search, captioning, and workflows to support hybrid teaching and future needs.
