Bringing Lecture Capture to the University of Northampton

The University of Northampton sought to enhance the student experience by making lectures available online and on mobile devices, integrated with its NILE/Blackboard systems. Learning technology staff led a review of options and needed a solution that was easy for lecturers to use, produced high-quality recordings, integrated with internal systems, and offered good value for money.

They trialed Panopto’s hosted lecture-capture software, which was quick to deploy, intuitive, and integrated seamlessly with Blackboard. During the one-year trial Panopto was used across 21 modules with 87 recording sessions and 738 viewers; it supported assessed presentations and guest lectures, is now installed in all lecture theatres, and the university plans to expand use, explore live broadcasting and video case studies, and consider self-hosting.
