A Panopto Case Study
A world‑renowned Ivy League university had seen video adoption grow organically across departments, leaving faculty and students juggling multiple platforms (Echo360, Kaltura, Vimeo, YouTube, iTunesU) and the learning‑tech team maintaining a complex, decentralized web of solutions. The committee’s 2014 review found no central media library, no cross‑course sharing, and inconsistent, inefficient video support that made access and management difficult for both staff and students.
To fix this, a working group from the Center for Teaching and Learning, IT services, and six professional schools evaluated eight vendors against seven priorities (ease of use, creation/curation, accessibility, LMS integration, support, live streaming, and search) and unanimously selected Panopto. After a successful pilot with three instructors who praised Panopto’s search, indexing, commenting, and ease of use, the university replaced Kaltura and Echo360 with an integrated campus‑wide video platform, simplifying management and improving the learning experience for faculty and students.
