How Matilda Jane Clothing Uses Data to Inform Design

Matilda Jane Clothing, a Ft. Wayne–based apparel company that sells whimsical girls’ fashion through a direct‑sales model, needed faster, unified access to marketing and sales metrics to inform design and merchandising decisions. Before implementing Panoply, analysts had to “mash” multiple data sources and wait hours for queryable tables, leaving designers without timely customer insights and creating “spreadsheets on spreadsheets.” After evaluating options, Matilda Jane selected Panoply’s smart data warehouse to centralize their data.

Panoply integrated Matilda Jane’s MySQL/SQL databases, Shopify, Formstack and Google connectors, automating ETL, storage management and query optimization so teams can access historical purchase activity without IT help. The change — called a “game changer” by Adam Beltz — eliminated spreadsheet bottlenecks, cut hours‑long waits, reduced storage costs, and enabled the company to isolate lapsed customers, tailor reactivation strategies and track previously unavailable metrics like active trips per customer.
