COOP Achieves a 40% Reduction in Risk and Testing Time Using Panaya

COOP, one of Switzerland’s largest retail and wholesale cooperatives with some 2.5 million members and over 77,000 employees, faced a major SAP upgrade from EHP5 to EHP7 (plus upgrades to CPS and CWR) affecting more than 5,000 users. Manual testing during prior upgrades was time-consuming and risky, and the introduction of new components (MIM, IE11) and a 20% hardware performance increase meant COOP needed a way to improve test quality, reduce risk and better estimate and prioritize testing effort.

COOP deployed Panaya’s cloud-based User Acceptance Testing solution and completed the upgrade in seven months on schedule and on budget. Panaya enabled targeted fixes (31,011 recommendations from 181,407 references), eliminated critical errors, and delivered major efficiencies: a 53% reduction in total project scope, 40% savings in testing effort, 30% savings on code corrections, and avoided an estimated 10 man-years and €500,000 in NZDT costs; 827 support packs were imported for EHP7 versus 269 in the prior project.
