A Panasas Case Study
Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (RAL) needed to replace legacy direct-attached storage with a high-performance HPC storage platform to support rapidly growing climate modelling workloads. With a tight deployment timeline and a requirement for low cost per terabyte, extreme scalability, and simple management, RAL evaluated several options before selecting Panasas ActiveStor.
Panasas implemented ActiveStor appliances with the PanFS parallel file system, delivering a fully integrated, scalable storage environment across four sites. The result was an almost 8.5PB deployment that became one of the largest HPC storage installations in Great Britain, providing the performance, resilience, and manageability needed to eliminate bottlenecks and accelerate climate research.
