University of Westminster Combines “Amazing” Freedom of Access and Security to Global Users With Palo Alto Networks®

The University of Westminster, a London-based institution serving over 20,000 students across multiple campuses and international locations, needed to provide uninterrupted, secure network access for students and staff while protecting sensitive research, intellectual property and confidential student data. Its legacy, multi-vendor firewall and web-access setup offered little visibility or control over user activity, complicating support for mobile devices and creating legal and security risks.

Working with Khipu Networks the university deployed two Palo Alto Networks PA-5050 firewalls with GlobalProtect and the WildFire cloud sandbox to extend secure access to thousands of remote users. The consolidated solution delivered full visibility and control of all traffic (including P2P, malware and web content), automated threat detection and removal, reduced network management time and costs, eliminated multiple points of failure, and simplified administration and upgrades.
