University of the Witwatersrand protects 41,000 students with Palo Alto Networks

The University of the Witwatersrand, a major university in South Africa, faced sophisticated cyber threats and an overwhelming volume of security alerts from its existing tools, which strained its security operations team. To protect its large academic community and data, Wits turned to Palo Alto Networks and their AI-Driven Security Operations Platform, including Cortex XDR and Cortex XSOAR.

Implemented with partner KHIPU Networks, the Palo Alto Networks solution provided a consolidated view of threats and automated response playbooks. This dramatically reduced alert volume, eliminated zero-day malware and ransomware attacks, and freed security staff for strategic work, ensuring a secure and uninterrupted learning environment for over 41,000 students.
