Securing remote access to maintain business continuity

Thoughtworks China, the regional arm of the global technology consultancy Thoughtworks, supports 2,817 employees across seven offices. When the Omicron wave in 2022 triggered citywide lockdowns, the company needed to rapidly enable secure remote access for its entire staff—many of whom had to use personal devices—and ensure data and systems remained protected while business continued.

Thoughtworks used Palo Alto Networks NGFWs, GlobalProtect, Panorama and cloud‑delivered services (Threat Prevention, URL Filtering, DNS Security, WildFire) to provide IPsec/SSL VPN connectivity and extend consistent security to on‑ and off‑premises devices. Combined with prior cloud migration and a high‑availability architecture, the solution preserved network resilience and business continuity, allowing all employees to work securely from home.
