A Palo Alto Networks Case Study
Temple University, a large, multi-campus institution with more than 38,000 students, needed to balance open network access for learning, research and campus life with strong protection for sensitive data and intellectual property. Facing a wide network footprint, legacy firewalls and rising complexity, the university sought a scalable, future-ready security approach that would reduce management overhead while preserving user freedom.
Temple deployed the Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Security Platform—backed by Threat Prevention, URL filtering, Panorama and a dedicated Technical Account Manager (TAM)—to gain application-level visibility and granular control. The rollout simplified segmentation, cut firewall rules from about 800 to 600, accelerated incident response and centralized logs for compliance enforcement, while the TAM provided proactive roadmapping and ongoing optimization to maximize platform value.
