A Palo Alto Networks Case Study
National Taipei University of Technology, Taiwan’s largest technical university with about 13,000 students, 1,500 faculty and 15,000 devices, was facing increasing malware, frequent DDoS attacks and rapidly rising network throughput that its existing firewall platform could no longer handle. As a high-profile IT and engineering campus, the university needed a more robust, scalable security solution to protect users and student-developed applications.
The university upgraded to Palo Alto Networks’ Next-Generation Firewall—adding PA-7000 Series appliances to work with existing PA-5050s and leveraging Traps and WildFire—providing single-pass architecture, single-pane visibility and granular user/application controls. The deployment enabled easy scaling (planned 40 Gbps), improved incident resolution, reduced network management costs by 20%, and future-proofed the network for at least five years.
