Modernising over 400 years of registry history with cloud security

Registers of Scotland, the non-ministerial public body that maintains Scotland’s property and legal records, is modernising more than 400 years of paper-based registry processes by migrating to an AWS cloud-first platform. The newly formed IT security team faced a four-year cloud rollout and needed fast, comprehensive visibility and controls to prevent development misconfigurations, demonstrate compliance, and avoid the cost and delay of traditional penetration testing.

Registers of Scotland standardised on Palo Alto Networks Prisma Cloud as part of a wider Palo Alto portfolio, embedding cloud security into the CI/CD pipeline to provide continuous posture management, runtime protection, and vulnerability scanning. The platform quickly exposed and allowed isolation of the systems causing half the legacy vulnerabilities, automated monitoring that saved the equivalent of four full‑time staff, accelerated new service launches, and improved governance and compliance while enabling a “shift‑left” DevSecOps approach.
