A Palo Alto Networks Case Study
The Ministry of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources of Saudi Arabia oversees the nation’s oil, gas and mineral policies and is a frequent target for cyberattacks, with end-user workstations identified as the weakest point. Facing continuous threats—from DDoS to ransomware and malware callbacks—the ministry needed a prevention-focused solution to protect its critical energy infrastructure and staff across executive and operational workstations.
The ministry deployed Palo Alto Networks’ Security Operating Platform, including Traps advanced endpoint protection integrated with WildFire threat analysis and next‑generation firewall capabilities. Traps now protects about 500 workstations (with plans to scale to 2,000–2,500), eliminated the need for traditional antivirus, reduced ransomware and callback alerts from two to three per week to zero, and virtually eliminated cyber-invasion incidents—including zero-day exploits—without impacting workstation performance or user productivity.
