A Palo Alto Networks Case Study
Management & Training Corporation (MTC), a privately held operator of Job Corps, corrections and workforce development programs with 9,400 employees across 20 states, needed better network visibility, more reliable VPNs and lower costs. Its existing stack (Cisco ASA, Juniper IPS, Websense) incurred high licensing and maintenance fees, produced inconsistent web filtering and lacked visibility into modern threats, which hurt application performance and security.
MTC deployed Palo Alto Networks next‑generation firewalls—PA‑5020s at the core and PA‑200s at remote sites—managed with Panorama and supplemented by WildFire and PAN‑DB URL filtering (with VM‑100 testing). The integrated solution delivered granular app/user visibility and control, stabilized VPNs and WAN performance, enabled flexible user-based policies, reduced capital costs by $14,000 and annual maintenance by $3,000, and is projected to pay for itself within three years.
