Large U.S. Government Agency Improves Network Security and Performance

A large U.S. civilian government agency serving hundreds of thousands of employees faced rapidly growing internet traffic—with SSL-encrypted traffic rising from under 30% to more than 70%—and needed better visibility into encrypted traffic, reduced operational overhead, and consolidation of dozens of security appliances to meet Trusted Internet Connections (TIC) requirements.

The agency deployed ten Palo Alto Networks PA‑7080 appliances with URL Filtering, Threat Prevention, WildFire and Panorama management, using built-in SSL Decryption Broker and App‑ID for application whitelisting. The result was much higher throughput with fewer devices and lower power/management overhead, complete visibility into decrypted traffic to reduce threat risk, and rapid deployment across TIC gateways.
