A Palo Alto Networks Case Study
HealthPartners, a Minnesota-based integrated healthcare system serving more than 1.8 million members with 25,000 staff and 1,800 physicians, faced increasingly sophisticated malware, ransomware and persistent threats that could disrupt patient care and expose protected health information. The organization needed advanced endpoint protection integrated with a firewall refresh to prevent infections and ensure availability, integrity and compliance across hospitals, clinics and insurance operations.
HealthPartners deployed the Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Security Platform—including Traps endpoint protection, WildFire, AutoFocus, Panorama and PA-5220 appliances—across ~30,000 workstations and 2,000+ servers. In proof of concept Traps blocked 100% of ransomware samples, and in production the integrated platform consolidated multiple systems at roughly half the competitor cost, prevented more than 100 attacks, enabled secure PCI segmentation to reduce scope, and delivered granular visibility and threat intelligence (with Splunk integration) that supports future automation of threat mitigation.
