End-to-End Security Prevents Cyberthreats From Disrupting Health Services and Exploiting Patient Records

St. Patrick’s Mental Health Services is Ireland’s largest independent, not-for-profit mental health provider, operating multiple inpatient campuses and community clinics and managing electronic health records for patients. Facing a complex mix of legacy point products, limited visibility into network traffic, rising cloud use, and growing cyberthreats, the IT team needed to strengthen network and endpoint security, stop data from being uploaded to public cloud storage, and simplify secure remote access.

The organization consolidated security onto the Palo Alto Networks Security Operating Platform—deploying PA‑850 firewalls plus GlobalProtect, Traps, WildFire, URL filtering and threat prevention—which delivered end-to-end, application- and user-aware protection. Results included no malware or ransomware outbreaks, complete traffic visibility and granular control (including blocking public cloud storage), simplified VPN access for remote staff, reduced weekly management hours and lower Opex, freeing IT to focus on patient-facing projects.
