Case Study: Basque Center on Cognition, Brain and Language (BCBL) achieves full control of data output and zero cyber-attacks with Palo Alto Networks PA-3050

A Palo Alto Networks Case Study

Preview of the BCBL Case Study

BCBL gets full control over their data output thanks to Palo Alto Networks®

The Basque Center on Cognition, Brain and Language (BCBL) is an international research center in Donostia‑San Sebastián that handles sensitive participant and experimental data. Facing rising volumes of confidential information and a prior firewall that lacked user/application control and vendor support, BCBL needed a modern, customizable security solution that would let them tightly control data output while still permitting researchers to use social networks and VPNs.

BCBL deployed two Palo Alto Networks PA‑3050 firewalls in a high‑availability configuration (with Threat Prevention, URL filtering, WildFire and Active Directory integration), implemented by ITS Security over a three‑day migration. The solution delivered layer‑7 visibility and simplified rule sets, enabled customized access profiles across intranets, Wi‑Fi, VPNs and servers, and delivered clear results: zero cyber‑attacks since deployment, continuous website availability, about 20% time savings in IT management, and only two quickly resolved incidents.
