RISK Manages Operational Risks in the Green Supply Chain

Graphic Era University, working with Dr. Sachin K. Mangla and collaborators, faced the challenge of assessing operational risks tied to implementing a green supply chain for a plastic manufacturer in India. Key uncertainties included machine and facility failures, process design problems, lack of skilled labor, system/software failures, and green-technology inadequacy—risks that could cause production delays, cost overruns, quality issues and brand or safety impacts. To quantify these uncertainties they used Palisade’s @RISK.

Using Palisade’s @RISK, the team ran Monte Carlo simulations with triangular distributions and sensitivity analysis to model time- and cost-based effects of identified risks. @RISK produced probabilistic scenarios and ranked risks by likelihood, estimated average disruptions to materials and products, and revealed the potential ecological‑economic gains of a green supply chain—resulting in concrete, data-driven recommendations to manage operational risks and improve forecast accuracy.
