PragmaRisk, a risk management consultancy serving the engineering and construction sector, needed a reliable way to determine and monitor contingency funds to manage budget and schedule overrun risk on multi‑year projects. To meet this challenge it uses Palisade’s DecisionTools Suite—principally @RISK for Monte Carlo simulation and StatTools for statistical analysis—integrating with Excel and MS Project to quantify uncertainties and support contingency recommendations.

Using Palisade’s @RISK and StatTools, PragmaRisk implements integrated cost-and-schedule QRA to calculate the probability of meeting budgets and specify contingency levels by percentile (e.g., P50, P70, P80) that match a client’s risk appetite. The solution produces contingency consumption curves, highlights key cost/time drivers, improves modelling productivity through Excel/MS Project integration, and brings greater coherence between qualitative and quantitative risk management for measurable, data‑driven contingency decisions.
