Patrick Engineering Uses @RISK for Cost and Schedule Risk on MBTA Project

Patrick Engineering, a nationwide engineering, design, and project management firm, needed a better way to estimate and reserve funds for uncertain cost and schedule requirements on MBTA infrastructure projects. Working with Palisade and its @RISK software, the team supported independent cost estimating, scheduling, and risk analysis for complex projects such as the Downtown Crossing Vertical Upgrade.

Palisade’s @RISK was used to build collaborative quantitative risk models based on workshop input, probability distributions, and PERT/Triangle simulations to assess design, schedule, cost, and liquidated damages risks. The solution helped Patrick Engineering produce more accurate contingency assessments and give MBTA clearer visibility into where projects could go, improving preparedness for identified risks and strengthening budgeting and reserve planning.
