Multinational Defense Contractor QinetiQ uses @RISK to Evaluate New Technology

QinetiQ’s Advisory Services team was asked to assess the feasibility, development time and cost of an emerging wireless power transfer (WPT) technology for a client. To analyse these questions under uncertainty, QinetiQ used Palisade’s @RISK risk-analysis software and Monte Carlo techniques to capture variability and risk across whole-life cost and schedule estimates.

Using @RISK by Palisade, QinetiQ converted expert three‑point estimates and quantified risk events into Monte Carlo simulations, producing S‑curves, MOE vs NPV trade‑off plots and combined cost‑schedule scatter analyses. The work delivered a technical feasibility report, showed the client’s anticipated delivery date was optimistic (likely to be several times longer), and provided decision makers with confidence in risk‑adjusted whole‑life cost and schedule estimates and the funding required at specified confidence levels.
