Metaproject Determines Safest Way to Rescue Chilean Miners Using Palisade's PrecisionTree Analysis Tool

Metaproject was asked by the Chilean government to advise on the rescue of 33 miners trapped 700 meters underground after the San José mine collapse. Metaproject’s CEO Manuel Viera used Palisade’s decision‑tree analysis tool, PrecisionTree, to model the rescue alternatives and quantify risk in terms of exposure, probability and severity so the team could compare technically feasible and economically viable options.

Using Palisade’s PrecisionTree, Metaproject evaluated drilling and tunneling scenarios and recommended prioritizing the Schramm T-130 (Option B) followed by the DTH/RIG-421 option, and running multiple techniques concurrently to reduce risk. The PrecisionTree analysis produced a clear statistical ranking of options; in the actual operation three drills were used, Drill B (Schramm T-130) reached the miners first 65 days after the collapse, and all 33 miners were brought to the surface within 22 hours of breakthrough—demonstrating measurable reduction in exposure and a successful, data‑driven rescue.
