Leading Steel Giant faced a high‑stakes shutdown to perform an intermediate reline on its largest blast furnace, an outage that would stop steelmaking and risk significant lost production. To manage project and business risk, the company engaged HVR Consulting Services Ltd and used Palisade’s @RISK software to identify, analyse and quantify schedule and commercial risks across the project and the wider Commercial & Industrial business.

Using Palisade’s @RISK, HVR built schedule risk and process models that combined activity-duration variability with risk‑register items to forecast outage duration and production throughput, and to guide stock and commercial decisions. The approach helped the Steering Committee focus on critical areas and, importantly, the furnace reline was completed in 68 days 9 hours—inside the aggressive 70‑day target—leaving slab stocks slightly above the irreducible minimum and avoiding days of costly lost production; Palisade’s analysis was cited as a key factor in that success.
