A Palisade Case Study
Illinois State University used Palisade’s @RISK in Dr. Domingo Castelo Joaquin’s MBA and undergraduate corporate finance courses to teach students how to model uncertainty with Monte Carlo simulation. The challenge was giving managers and students a pragmatic, user-friendly way to move beyond point or range estimates and learn to build credible, correlated distribution-based analyses for real options, capital budgeting and other finance problems.
Palisade’s @RISK was deployed in hands-on computer labs where students run simulations, analyze sensitivity (e.g., tornado diagrams) and produce deliverables for complex case exams. The result is measurable classroom impact: students routinely deliver simulation-based executive memos and spreadsheet models, demonstrate greater confidence with statistical analysis, and are better able to structure analyses that support executive decisions using Palisade’s tools.
