Biswas X-Ray and Scan Centre - Customer Case Study

Biswas X-Ray and Scan Centre, an imaging and research laboratory in Asansol specializing in brain tumours, faced the challenge of determining pathological changes on MRI without using intravenous gadolinium contrast because of its toxicity risks. To address this, the centre worked with Palisade and applied its NeuralTools product to investigate whether neural-network analysis could simulate contrast enhancement without injections.

Palisade’s NeuralTools — an Excel-based neural networks tool — was trained on historical pre- and post-gadolinium magnetic values to predict tissue signal and gray-scale values, producing MRI-like contrast maps without gadolinium. Using NeuralTools’ live prediction feature, Dr. Tapan Biswas achieved accurate, rapid results that allowed the centre to stop using gadolinium while maintaining tumour discrimination; most predictions were good, with residuals reported in the study (range -0.97 to -19.28).
