Oil Search’s New Comprehensive Leadership Framework

Oil Search, Papua New Guinea’s largest oil producer founded in 1929, completed strategic reviews to support ambitious international growth and the addition of gas to its portfolio. To meet these goals it needed a streamlined way to identify and develop future leaders while managing cultural and role diversity, community responsibilities and a lack of consistent career development and succession planning for junior staff.

Oil Search partnered with PageUp to design a simple, flexible Leadership Framework built around six key competencies. The framework was developed with cross‑business working groups and focus‑group testing, piloted across leadership and graduate programs, and embedded into recruitment, performance, development and succession processes — delivering clearer insight into the talent pipeline, consistent assessment of candidates, and executive and board endorsement for company‑wide use.
