Seattle Pacific Keep Students and Faculty Running with PRTG

Seattle Pacific University, a Christian university in Seattle serving about 4,000 students, needed a better way to monitor the many services supporting faculty and students. Its IT team, led by system engineer Brendan McGree, had been using Microsoft SCOM and an older version of Paessler AG’s PRTG Network Monitor, but SCOM created extra work and the monitoring setup was out of date.

Paessler AG’s PRTG was upgraded and expanded to monitor virtual machines, physical servers, webpages, network traffic, CPU and RAM, and custom SAN storage metrics without agents. The result was faster problem detection, fewer help desk complaints, and quicker response times—often before users noticed an issue—while McGree became the internal PRTG expert and Seattle Pacific University rarely needed external support.
