School District of Pickens County uses PRTG to keep students and teachers productive

School District of Pickens County (SDPC), a South Carolina district serving more than 16,000 students across 32 sites, needed a way to keep a large, distributed education network running with a small IT staff. During the pandemic, the team had to support remote and hybrid learning while short-staffed, monitor dozens of school subnets, and maintain critical systems like servers, UPS units, internet links, and security infrastructure. SDPC used Paessler AG’s PRTG Network Monitor to gain visibility into its environment and avoid relying on schools to report issues.

Paessler AG implemented PRTG across SDPC’s infrastructure with one central server, one probe, and 2,600 sensors to monitor switches, Windows servers, bandwidth, email archiving, and Nutanix cluster performance. The district said PRTG alerts allowed IT to detect and resolve fiber failures and network crashes before teachers and students were affected, helping keep learning uninterrupted. SDPC also noted that its XL1 license supports unlimited sensors, leaving room for growth and future automation such as helpdesk ticket generation via API.
