Leica Geosystems consolidates global IT monitoring with Paessler PRTG across 35 countries and 17,000 sensors

Leica Geosystems, a Swiss manufacturing enterprise with over 4,500 employees across 35 countries, faced the challenge of managing a fragmented mix of IT monitoring tools. This complex setup, which included WhatsUp Gold, BSM for SAP, and Systems Insight Manager, lacked a single, centralized view of their global infrastructure, SQL databases, and SAP applications. They needed to replace this sprawl with one unified platform and turned to vendor Paessler AG for a solution using their PRTG monitoring product.

The solution implemented by Paessler involved consolidating all monitoring onto a single PRTG server with six remote probes to cover their global operations. Custom sensors were built for SQL and SAP monitoring, and device templates were used to standardize configurations. As a result, Leica Geosystems now monitors 17,000 sensors from one platform. The team achieved full visibility, streamlined their alerting process by disabling emails, and ensured all incidents are tracked in their ticketing system with the goal of having all sensors either green or acknowledged.
