Improving a Municipality's Network with PRTG

The City of Airdrie, a Canadian municipality supporting more than 65,000 residents, needed a better way to monitor and secure its critical network with a small IT team. Paessler AG’s PRTG Network Monitor was chosen to help Network Engineer Paul Hurst and System Administrator Eric Goulden quickly identify root causes, proactively address issues, and maintain visibility across a complex environment supporting essential city services.

With Paessler AG’s PRTG, the city deployed more than 1,000 sensors to monitor bandwidth, radio links, servers, storage, security, and applications across on-premises and hybrid systems. The solution reduced troubleshooting time, improved proactive alerting, and helped the team avoid unnecessary bandwidth purchases by revealing that an application slowdown was caused by a virtualization setting, not network capacity; it also strengthened security monitoring and supported better lifecycle and procurement decisions based on historical data.
