Ventilator Challenge UK turned to PA Consulting to help respond to an urgent national shortage of ventilators during the coronavirus pandemic. With the NHS at risk of running out of life-saving equipment within weeks, the challenge was to rapidly design, source, manufacture, approve, and distribute ventilators at unprecedented speed and scale.

PA Consulting led the Ventilator Challenge UK programme, coordinating clinicians, government, manufacturers, suppliers, and regulators across multiple workstreams. The team triaged more than 5,000 offers of help, assessed over 200 designs, coordinated 40 million parts from 21 countries, and helped deliver more than 13,000 ventilators in 15 weeks so that every patient who needed one had access to one.
