Using digital technology to revolutionise recruitment for clinical trials

National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) worked with PA Consulting to speed up clinical trial recruitment, a major bottleneck that can add years to the development of new treatments. NIHR wanted to transform the UK Clinical Trials Gateway from an informational website into a digital service that could help people register as potential participants.

PA Consulting consulted patients, the public, and researchers to design and refine the UK Clinical Trials Gateway into a patient-centric online registration platform. Launched in 2016, the service was generating around 1,000 registrations per month from the start and was syndicated across web pages seen by 3.4 million visitors monthly, helping NIHR cut recruitment time and costs and bring life-saving treatments to patients faster.
