A PA Consulting Case Study
PA Consulting worked with the University of Cambridge to address a major agricultural challenge: how to use emerging digital technologies to improve crop yields, reduce losses, and help farmers make better decisions about disease, pests, irrigation, and fertilisation. The project focused on turning field, crop, and environmental data into reliable, practical advice.
PA Consulting used drones, machine learning, and sensor technology to create 2D and 3D field maps, predict crop lodging, analyse weed root structures, and develop a low-cost soil moisture sensor. The result was better insight into when crops need water and where risks may occur, helping make precision agriculture more affordable and effective while improving the potential for higher-quality, higher-yielding crops.
