Starting a revolution with a waste-free alternative to plastic bottles

Notpla, a London-based start-up, needed a way to replace single-use plastic packaging with a waste-free alternative made from seaweed. To help bring this idea to life, PA Consulting worked with Notpla to design, build and test a machine for producing its edible, biodegradable Ooho containers.

PA Consulting’s mechanical and process engineers collaborated with Notpla’s scientists to develop a production prototype that could make and fill Ooho containers on-site. The solution is helping Notpla expand into new use cases such as running events, retail, and food delivery, with the potential to stop up to 1 billion plastic bottles from reaching the ocean each year and eliminate 300 million kg of carbon emissions.
