Single-surgery solution to repair damaged cartilage

CellCoTec, a development-stage orthopaedics company, needed to automate a lab-based process for its tissue regeneration therapy to repair damaged knee cartilage. The goal was to improve cell yield and reduce process times for a single-surgery cartilage repair solution, and PA Consulting was brought in to help.

PA Consulting assembled a multidisciplinary team of life scientists and manufacturing process improvement experts to work closely with CellCoTec’s management and lab teams. They ran workshops, developed novel machine concepts, and built rapid prototypes and proof-of-principle test rigs for lab evaluation, helping turn a lab-based process into an automated procedure with reduced process times and improved cell handling.
