PA Consulting worked with Essex and Kent Police Forces, who needed to make better use of mobile technology to improve frontline efficiency. Officers wanted direct access to crime data and the ability to file reports while on the move, but the forces needed a stronger business case to secure budget approval and show how the technology would integrate with the emergency services’ new mobile network.

PA Consulting helped develop outline and full business cases for procuring 4,200 smartphones and related software that gives officers access to records systems like an app. The solution was approved and deployed, enabling officers to save time in the field, with the forces estimating a benefit of around one hour per officer per shift; PA Consulting also supported a strategy to monitor and measure those benefits.
