The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust worked with PA Consulting to address a challenging target of saving 4% of its annual budget while improving efficiency across its two hospital sites. As part of the national Financial Improvement Programme, the Trust needed better ways to manage time and resources, reduce waiting times, and support staff with more effective scheduling and booking processes.

PA Consulting implemented innovative scheduling software, better patient communication tools, and workforce management improvements to help clinicians and managers make smarter use of capacity. The result was £10 million in savings, capacity for 80 additional hours of operations and 430 more outpatient appointments per month, an 18% reduction in outpatient no-shows, and a 7% reduction in agency spend.
