Protecting UK critical national infrastructure by securing industrial control systems

PA Consulting worked with the Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure (CPNI) to help protect the UK’s critical national infrastructure. As sectors like energy, water, transport and communications became increasingly reliant on industrial control systems (ICS), CPNI needed a way to better understand and manage growing cyber risks across these vital services.

PA Consulting developed the Security for Industrial Control Systems (SICS) framework, creating a set of ICS guidance documents and a companion security assessment tool. The solution is now used nationally, giving organisations a comprehensive way to assess ICS security, share best practice across sectors, and support the UK’s cyber security strategy, with the approach also being adopted internationally.
