Network Rail, the UK rail infrastructure operator, needed to strengthen cyber security as it invested £30 billion to digitize its network. PA Consulting was brought in to review security policies and procedures, assess risk culture, and identify the most critical areas to protect against operational disruption, safety risks, and potential fines.

PA Consulting designed a new operating model with built-in cyber protection for industrial control systems, created reference architectures to guide secure future technology changes, and identified the most crucial assets. PA Consulting also delivered a communications strategy and a “Cyber for Engineers” course for over 100 employees, helping make cyber security central to Network Rail’s operations and better preparing the workforce for future threats.
