Notpla aims to stop 1 billion plastic bottles with PA Consulting

Notpla, a London-based start-up, faced the challenge of finding a biodegradable alternative to single-use plastic bottles and food packaging. PA Consulting worked with them to design, build, and test specialized machinery for their innovative seaweed-based material called Ooho.

The solution from PA Consulting involved developing a production prototype machine that could form containers from Notpla's material. This enabled the business to lease compact machines to other companies for on-site production. The results were significant, including Notpla winning The Earthshot Prize. The initiative aims to stop up to one billion plastic bottles from reaching the ocean annually and eliminate associated carbon emissions.
