Case Study: Teach First improves progression support for disadvantaged young people with PA Consulting

Making sure young people succeed whatever their background

Teach First, a charity focused on ending inequality in education, partnered with PA Consulting to help more young people succeed regardless of background. The challenge was understanding why disadvantaged students were less likely to progress into apprenticeships and other post-school opportunities, especially when lack of information and financial barriers could discourage applications.

PA Consulting supported Teach First with in-depth research and a joint progression report, alongside mentoring, CV and assessment training, and pro bono consulting advice. The report recommended a nationwide UCAS-style apprenticeship “one stop shop” and a review of financial deterrents, helping strengthen the case for better support for disadvantaged young people and reinforcing Teach First’s work across the UK.
