Network Rail, working on its Wessex route, faced growing scrutiny from regulators, passengers, and politicians while managing around 70 ongoing asset maintenance and improvement projects. PA Consulting was brought in to help improve governance, reporting, and overall programme management across these projects.

PA Consulting implemented a new programme management function, introduced user-friendly reporting templates, and added tighter controls, checkpoints, and central planning to improve prioritisation and resource allocation. By integrating closely with the Network Rail team and providing coaching and workshops, PA Consulting helped improve performance, reduce delays, and deliver better outcomes for the approximately 500,000 passengers who use the route each day.
