Johnnie Walker trials a 70cl paper bottle with PA Consulting, cutting carbon emissions up to 47%

PA Consulting partnered with Diageo's Johnnie Walker brand, which sought to push the boundaries of sustainable packaging innovation for its premium Scotch whisky. The challenge was to create a viable paper-based bottle that could meet the demands of a high-paced bar environment while retaining the brand's iconic premium design and user experience.

The solution was the development of a commercial prototype 70cl paper-based bottle using PulPac's Dry Molded Fiber technology, facilitated by the PA and PulPac Bottle Collective. The bottle, made from 90% plant fibers, was successfully trialed in a bar setting. PA Consulting helped deliver a bottle approximately 60% lighter than glass, with an initial life cycle analysis indicating a potential reduction in carbon emissions of up to 47% compared to the standard glass bottle.
