Case Study: North West London Collaborative of Clinical Commissioning Groups improves perinatal mental health care with PA Consulting

Giving mothers the specialist mental health care they need

North West London Collaborative of Clinical Commissioning Groups worked with PA Consulting to help develop and implement a new perinatal mental health service in North West London. The CCGs faced a complex challenge: supporting more than 12,000 births a year across multiple providers and ensuring women with mental illness during pregnancy or after birth could access specialist care.

PA Consulting supported the programme by working with stakeholders to create a clear delivery plan, including service locations, links to maternity care, and referral processes. PA Consulting also helped negotiate premises contracts, align IT and funding systems, and communicate with staff and patients. The service launched within six months and treated more than 300 women in its first year, with highly positive feedback and evidence of improved maternal mental health; it was also highly commended in the Positive Practice National Awards.
