Atkins, a world-leading design, engineering and project management consultancy, wanted to think more radically about the future of work beyond the usual three- to five-year workforce planning horizon. PA Consulting’s people and talent experts helped the company explore how demographic, social and technology shifts could reshape jobs, employee expectations and the skills Atkins would need to stay competitive.

PA Consulting ran two day-long future-of-work workshops with diverse participant groups, then had teams develop and pitch ideas to the board after a month of refinement. The programme gave Atkins a robust process and senior buy-in, and it is already acting on the most promising ideas by developing digital, collaboration and problem-solving skills among its future workforce.
