Dstl improves operational decisions with PA Consulting using 22 quantum use cases

The UK's Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) faced the challenge of improving the speed and quality of complex operational decision-making in defence and security scenarios, which were becoming too complex for humans or classical computing alone. PA Consulting applied its expertise, including a hybrid approach using Amazon Braket's quantum computing service, to address this need.

PA Consulting worked with Dstl to identify and prototype solutions for two specific military use cases: optimizing communications asset placement and allocating limited resources. The resulting hybrid classical/quantum tools enabled defence planners to rapidly explore a wide range of optimal solutions and make better, faster decisions. This work successfully demonstrated the practical benefit of current quantum computing technology for defence challenges and positioned the UK MOD at the forefront of this field.
