A PA Consulting Case Study

Preview of the Department for International Development Case Study

Department for International Development - Customer Case Study

PA Consulting worked with the Department for International Development (DFID), the UK government department focused on ending extreme poverty, to address a major challenge in humanitarian aid distribution: limited visibility across long supply chains, making it difficult to know whether supplies reached the intended recipients quickly, efficiently, and securely. DFID wanted to explore whether blockchain technology could improve transparency and accountability in the delivery of essentials such as water, medicines, clothing, and bedding.

PA Consulting helped DFID assess the opportunity for blockchain by analysing supply chain pain points, running rapid-response scenarios, and supporting pilot programmes to test the technology in a stable environment. The solution included real-time tracking, transparency on supply status and location, and smart contracting to automate processes. The result was a successfully tested pilot that DFID has taken forward for real-world testing, with the potential to reduce fraud, improve visibility, and transform humanitarian aid distribution.
